Guide
How to add an AI chatbot to your website in about 10 minutes.
What to decide first, how the bot learns your content, exactly where the script tag goes on WordPress, Shopify, Webflow, Wix and Squarespace — and how to test it before customers do.
In short
To add an AI chatbot to a website you create the bot, point it at your website so it learns your content, then paste one script tag into the site's head section. The widget appears on every page that loads that script.
With Defaltam the full process takes about ten minutes and costs €79/month for a support bot or €149/month for a sales bot. No developer and no code changes beyond the single script tag are required.

Step by step
The six steps, in order
Step 1
Choose what the chatbot is for
Decide whether the bot should answer customer questions (support) or qualify visitors and capture contact details (sales). The two need different instructions, so pick one before you install anything.
Step 2
Subscribe and create the chatbot
With Defaltam, subscribe to the Support plan (€79/month) or the Sales plan (€149/month). A chatbot is created for your account automatically and appears in your dashboard.
Step 3
Add your website address
Paste your website URL in the dashboard. Defaltam reads your public pages and uses them as the bot's knowledge, so it answers with your real services, prices and policies.
Step 4
Set the name, welcome message and colour
Optional but worth two minutes: set the bot's name, its first message, the accent colour, its position on screen and any starter questions visitors can tap.
Step 5
Copy the script tag into your site's head
Copy the one-line script from the dashboard and paste it inside the <head> section of your website, on every page you want the bot to appear. In WordPress use a header-scripts plugin or your theme's header settings; in Shopify edit theme.liquid; in Webflow use the site-wide custom code head field; in Wix use Settings then Custom Code.
Step 6
Test it with real customer questions
Open your site, ask the five questions customers actually ask, and add any missing detail as extra knowledge in the dashboard. Then check it on a phone as well as a desktop.
The code
What the script tag looks like
<script src="https://defaltam.com/api/public/bot/widget?k=YOUR_PUBLIC_KEY" async></script>
Your own key is shown in the dashboard after you subscribe. Paste the line inside the head section of your site, save, and reload the page — the launcher appears in the corner you chose.
Where to paste it
Where does the script go on each platform?
| Platform | Where the head code lives |
|---|---|
| WordPress | A header-scripts plugin, or Appearance → Theme File Editor → header.php |
| Shopify | Online Store → Themes → Edit code → layout/theme.liquid, before </head> |
| Webflow | Project Settings → Custom Code → Head Code |
| Wix | Settings → Custom Code → Add code to Head |
| Squarespace | Settings → Developer Tools → Code Injection → Header |
| Custom-built site | The shared layout or template that renders <head> on every page |
Support or sales
Which type of chatbot should you install?
| Bot | Price | What it does | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Support | €79/mo | Answers questions from your website content, hands off when unsure | Sites getting repetitive customer questions |
| Sales | €149/mo | Qualifies visitors, handles objections, asks for contact details | Sites where enquiries are the goal |
| Enterprise | On quote | Multiple sites and custom requirements | Larger setups |
Before you launch
A five-minute test checklist
- · Ask the five questions your customers ask most and check every answer is true.
- · Ask something the bot cannot know and confirm it hands off instead of guessing.
- · Check the widget on a phone: it should not cover your main button.
- · Confirm your prices and opening details on the site are current — the bot repeats them.
- · Re-index the site after any content change so the bot stays accurate.
Chatbot install FAQ
Installing a website chatbot, answered.
How do I add an AI chatbot to my website?
Pick a chatbot provider, create the bot, point it at your website so it learns your content, then paste the provider's script tag into the <head> section of your site. With Defaltam the whole process takes about ten minutes and the bot is live immediately after the script is saved.
Do I need a developer to install a website chatbot?
No. Installing means pasting one line of code into your site's header settings. WordPress, Shopify, Webflow, Wix and Squarespace all have a place to paste header code without touching a developer.
How much does an AI chatbot for a website cost?
Defaltam charges €79/month for the Support bot and €149/month for the Sales bot, flat, with an Enterprise option on quote. Other providers commonly bill per seat, per conversation or per AI resolution, so the total depends on your traffic.
How does the chatbot learn about my business?
Defaltam crawls your public website pages and uses that content as the bot's knowledge, so it answers with your own services, prices and policies. You can add anything missing as plain text in the dashboard and re-index whenever the site changes.
Where exactly do I paste the script tag?
Inside the <head> element of your website, before the closing head tag, on every page. In WordPress use a header-scripts plugin or the theme header, in Shopify theme.liquid, in Webflow the site-wide custom code head field, in Wix Settings then Custom Code, in Squarespace Code Injection.
Will the chatbot slow my website down?
The Defaltam script is loaded asynchronously, which means the browser keeps rendering your page while the widget loads in the background.
Can I remove the chatbot later?
Yes. Switch it off in the dashboard to hide it without losing your configuration, or delete the script tag from your site. The subscription can be cancelled and runs to the end of the paid period.
